McCain Shifts Blame for TARP Vote

Sen. McCain, facing a tough challenge for his seat in Arizona from J.D. Hayworth, is claiming he was suckered into voting for TARP.
[T]he four-term senator says he was misled by then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.
Even taken at face value this still shows he’s undeserving of a Senate seat.

How can you justify being in the Senate for decades and still know so little about economics and the facts of the situation that you could be misled by the likes of Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke?

Pathetic, either way.

Well, he did say during the 2008 campaign that "economics isn't my strong suit."

Economic illiteracy isn't excusable in a politician, for certain, but the admission of same is somewhat refreshing.

Nevertheless, McCain is an exceedingly dim bulb. He belongs on the back bench, not in the leadership, and never should have been put forth as a statesman by the GOP. And given the ignominious nature of that campaign for which he was responsible, all I'm interested in hearing from McCain is silence.

If you're Juan Goodgovernment McAmnesty trot out your War Hero bona fides (to be fair, that may be the only genuine thing about the guy).

For most of the rest of us, it is enough to have gone to the publik skools and never have heard of Henry Hazlitt. (And I'm not claiming to be a righteous man either; I didn't read Hazlitt until five years ago, and while I'm not quite pushing 50 I can just about read its license plate. :-P)
