Look at the upside, though: When you're a "Gold" member *ahem* you have influence, access and privileges the plebescheithe don't have.
For example, you can organize outfits that tell everyone there's a "health care crisis" so as to force government to create taxpayer paid space for your ne'er-do-well friends and relatives to take up (and make no mistake about it, this push is very much from the top down, not the bottom up).
The name of the game is no longer success, but sinecure.
